The Library caters for all visitors, including people visting with children and those with a disability. Our facilities include free wireless internet access throughout the building, along with power points in all reading rooms. We also have a Readings bookshop and a lively cafe, Mr Tulk.
Self-service lockers are available for large bags (including backpacks, handbags and laptop bags), food and drink (bottled water can be brought into some Library areas) and umbrellas (which can also be left with foyer security guards).
Standard lockers cost $1, larger lockers $2 and small lockers with a device (laptop, phone etc) charger cost $2 for four hours. Payment is cash only. A customer service officer is on hand each day to help with queries.
We have a customer service librarian available to help visitors with a disability and their carers, but all staff can help users with special needs to access the collection.
For visitors with babies and young children, our main parents room is on the ground floor, near the women's toilets. A smaller parents room is located near the Journals & Magazines area, on level 2a.
This space, off the La Trobe Reading Room on level 3, is for the use of State Library of Victoria Foundation members. It’s open daily during Library hours and has a kitchenette, computers and laptop facilities. Members should see security staff for a temporary access card.
