Discover why the Library is an iconic Melbourne landmark renowned for its architecture. Take a tour or explore on your own. The domed La Trobe Reading Room and Redmond Barry Reading Rooms are highlights.

Research & study

Our unique collection and expert staff make the Library a drawcard destination for research. We have spaces suitable for quiet research as well as group study. Computers, printers and copiers, along with wireless internet access are available.

Browse newspapers, journals & magazines

Discover our daily broadsheets, academic journals, glossy mags and industry must-reads. Current and past Victorian, Australian and international editions are available in hard copy, via online databases, or on microfilm.

Listen to music & watch films

Hear music and spoken word recordings from our collection and watch classic and contemporary films in the Arts Reading Room. We also hold regular film and music-related events.

Play games

The Play Pod in Experimedia has books, activities and games for kids. Experimedia also offers Apple Macs, and Wii, Xbox and PlayStation consoles for bigger kids. Chess and checkers can be played in the Chess Room.
